The early kids hip hop music sub-culture, because of the influence of violent rap music, was generaly dark in nature. Teens turned withdrawn, moody and anarchic more than ever before. The influence of the music threatened parents, schools, and even the government, leading them to take steps in controlling the situation.
The kids hip hop music sub-culture was influenced by rap music telling them of the hardship of the streets in the inner city, a subject many of them had probably never heard of, let alone experienced. The rappers in the mix had a hatefull driving force in them that, with the music’s popularity, carried the kids hip hop music cultural wave onto expressing their own frustrations with the world via mimicking their ways. It was easy for society to blame the music for their own flaws.
Today’s society still has a place for kids hip hop music, with it being less negative compare to its earlier version. Previous fans grew up and most already have kids. While most of them probably listen to the latest hip hop music, their children try a sample of what they used to listen to. Today’s kids hip hop music lacks the puculiarity of the past, now, the stories of the streets are already a part of society’s history, made so by the pioneering rap artists, eliminating the shock factor. Kids might imitate it, but not including the rampant violence that goes with it.
The genre’s growth itself played an important role in developing today’s kids hip hop music culture. The positive turn the music has taken is more inspiring to listeners today, so it has bled over into the children who have now taken it to heart. Kids hip hop music today preaches of volunteerism, instead of selfish and destructive greed which it used to convey, instead of tearing down the world, it teaches listeners to rebuild it, and to make themselves a part of it.
Gone is the criminal, the thug, the antisocial. In its place, now stands a leader, an entrepreneur and world healer, a champion of human rights, love and relationships. Kids hip hop music culture will prosper in a positive way, due to the reintroduction of its poetry and creativity. Themed albums dedicated to the more positive lessons of life learned the hard way are taking precedence over just grabbing what you want, when you want. Our children can only benefit more from the influence of the music than anything else the world has for them in today’s society.
